We use high-grade steel and durable materials for all of our swords, creating strong and beautiful works of art. Each sword is carefully crafted with the utmost care and attention to detail using traditional hand forging methods. Our samurai swords are made in the famed sword-smithing town of Longquan in the mountains of Qinxi from an ongoing tradition that’s lasted 2,600 years. In Japanese the katana is called dai or daitō which means “big sword.” The katana sword is still used in a variety of martial arts today including iaido, kenjutsu, iaijutsu, ninjutsu, and kendo. During the forging process, a hamon unique to the swordsmith was formed and revealed when the blade was polished. It was traditionally made with tamahagane steel that swordsmiths would fold and temper into a curved sword. The distinctive curved blade and long grip was designed as a two-handed sword and became the symbol of the samurai class. The samurai sword dates back to the Japanese Edo Period and as far back as the Kamakura Period.
